du Qu\u00e9bec \u2013 Sant\u00e9 (FRQS) and made possible by an initial $15M investment from Merck Canada, created the Priorit\u00e9-patient Program in partnership with the FRQS, Unit\u00e9 de soutien SRAP du Qu\u00e9bec, and with the collaboration of the Programme qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois de canc\u00e9rologie (PQC) du minist\u00e8re de la Sant\u00e9 et des Services sociaux. Oncopole is proud today to\u00a0<strong>announce the winners of the Priorit\u00e9 patient Competition. Four research projects, aimed at improving the care and service trajectory of cancer patients in Quebec, benefit from a substantial amount over 2 years.<\/strong>\u00a0The competition\u2019s initial budget made it possible to finance at least three projects.\u00a0An additional contribution from GSK allowed the funding of a fourth project, bringing\u00a0<strong>the total investment to $800,000.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>The Priorit\u00e9 patient Competition<\/strong><br \/>The\u00a0<strong>objective of Priorit\u00e9 patient is to fund research projects that will improve the care and services being provided, as well as the quality of life of cancer patients and their loved ones.<\/strong>\u00a0It is increasingly recognized that patients provide substantial and relevant information about the challenges they face throughout their cancer care trajectory. The program was therefore built with\u00a0<strong>the intention to directly involve patients<\/strong>: the research themes addressed in this competition stem in particular from consultations with Oncopole\u2019s patient-partner committee; the evaluation committee is composed in part of patients; and the team for each project includes at least one patient or caregiver who is involved from the project\u2019s design to its completion and a health or social services professional who practices directly with patients and their families.<\/p><p>In addition,\u00a0<strong>in collaboration with Unit\u00e9 de soutien SRAP du Qu\u00e9bec, training and support are offered to the teams to ensure they have the tools they need to integrate patients into the definition and carrying out of their research project.<\/strong>\u00a0Dr. Alain Vanasse, Scientific Director of Unit\u00e9 de soutien SRAP du Qu\u00e9bec is delighted with this initiative: \u201cEngaging patients in the research process is essential for improving care trajectories and practices. The projects presented in the Priorit\u00e9 patient Competition perfectly embody the idea of making patients proactive partners who participate in shaping health research and, therefore, health care. \u201d<\/p><p>The funded projects will thus equip health and social service professionals, managers, decision-makers and community groups to implement new practices for the benefit of users.<\/p><p><strong>Development and evaluation of an electronic communication program aimed at improving the quality of life of patients following cancer treatment\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>[<em>Sylvie Lambert, Ph.D., Associate Professor, McGill University, St. Mary\u2019s Research Centre<\/em><br \/><em>and Rosana Faria, Psychologist \u2013 Cancer Care Program, CIUSSS de l\u2019Ouest-de-l\u2019\u00eele-de-Montr\u00e9al, St. Mary\u2019s Hospital Centre.<\/em>]<p>The research project aims to develop and test a new electronic program to regularly collect and follow symptoms reported by cancer survivors called e-IMPAQc (survivorship). This program will enable patients who have completed cancer treatment and their caregivers to facilitate continuity of care, improve screening and management of long-term and late effects of cancer and refer them to the appropriate treatment and support at the right time. The ultimate goal is to improve their quality of life and survival.<\/p><p>\u201cWith Priorit\u00e9 patient, Oncopole is very proud to support projects that look after the interests of cancer patients.
